Monday, November 17, 2003 Rodman, 42, voluntarily sought help ESPN.com news services Dennis Rodman has voluntarily entered himself into a program for alcohol abuse, his agent said Monday. Darren Prince, of Prince Marketing Group, said the former NBA rebounding champion has been seeing a private counselor for the past 31⁄2 weeks. " Next week will be Dennis' one-month anniversary, but we'll take it one day at a time," Prince said. Prince said Rodman, 42, still wants to play in the NBA this year but first must get his life in order before contacting teams for tryouts. Rodman was charged Oct. 20 with driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed a motorcycle while doing stunts outside aLas Vegasstrip club. He was not jailed. Prince said at the time that he's confident the charges will be dropped." He was not even intoxicated. He had a couple of drinks and was getting ready to head back home toNewport Beachto continue training for his comeback to the NBA," Prince said in a statement. Rodman was issued a summons to appear in court for an arraignment sometime in November, police said. In September, Rodman was charged with being drunk in public inNewport Beach,Calif., where police say they have answered scores of complaints about noise at his home. Rodman is a regular visitor to Las Vegas, where he reached a settlement this year with the last of four women who accused him of fondling them at a hotel-casino in 1998. Prince said last month that Rodman had been "training like crazy" in preparation for NBA tryouts. Rodman, who last played in the NBA in 2000 with the Dallas Mavericks, had hoped for a tryout with the Denver Nuggets but it didn't pan out.
